I was just really curious about how the OS would work on a phablet because they always had a little bit of extra treatment. But there are a few things which are different.
Either this is just a bug or it is a feature. I really hope it is a feature as it would be very great to have it on such a big screen.
The Lumia is a mix of smartphone and tablet. In portrait mode the phone works just as every other Windows Phone. However, now more of the OS can be used in landscape mode, which is a difference to Windows Phone 8. This app is the new file explorer and it looks like this:. Obviously this looks a little buggy. I am absolutely against the hamburger menu. Instead of hiding the lists in a ugly button, Microsoft should make the pages swipeable like they always have been.
In landscape, however, I am not sure if swipe-able pivots would not waste too much space. Therefore I think a tablet like UI with a split screen like in the screenshot above would rock — only a little more improved. The landscape mode is not that good in every app, though. The maps app for example looks very crappy in landscape as the elements are really badly placed. So far it is a huge step forward compared to Windows Phone since at least there now is landscape functionality and I really hope the will benefit from it eventually.
While an always displayed menu makes sense in landscape, here universal apps could really shine if properly coded. The best example in the new music preview app. Pivots would do much better basically like everywhere. The same for the new mail app. Another thing I noticed is that the option menu on the bottom of the screen can no longer be opened by swipes over the edge of the screen. Especially in the new office apps this would make sense since it speeds the workflow: Instead of having to tap the three buttons one could simply swipe over the edge just as it works in Windows Phone currently.
I hope that this is simply not coded yet but planned. Of course one can connect a keyboard or a mouse via Bluetooth to the phone. It works quickly and is easy to use, and in my case the OS even supported the dedicated Windows button on my mouse. Two more changes that the latest technical preview added are a new start screen and a new keyboard.
The keyboard is so much more precise compared to Windows Phone. Windows Phone always had a great keyboard experience, but Windows 10 mobile has improved it even further. With two hands in landscape and portrait mode I can type even faster and with less errors than before. Yeah, okay, I made that number up, but is really fast and precise.
Additionally, the new cursor button really lets you get stuff done. First I want to say something about the office preview. This article, even with all its pictures, was written on my phone only. Word works great and with only a very small amount of bugs, and all the features were really needed.
One can see a lot of stuff without needing to scroll and do a lot of editing. Even the UI is great. Behind the hamburger menu options like print, save or share hide. In this case it is only options which are not used that often, so it is more like an option menu instead of a menu the user would need to open to do basic stuff. It works fast and mostly smooth, but it is not always stable, looks unfinished in some corners and features might change with coming updates. Also, I was very happy to see the back button behavior being consistent again in the first preview of Windows 10 mobile.
Every app behaved the same way I think none app really closed and just got thrown into the task manager , but now, unfortunately, we are at the state of 8. I really like where Windows 10 mobile is heading!
Besides this the system needs a lot of bug fixing obviously , but feature wise and in terms of design language Windows 10 already rocks! Windows 10 being updated now is extremely bugy even with it not being insider program. It has its faults like email notifications don’t notify you so you have to go into the app every time to see if you have a new email. The camera app keeps exiting for some unknown reason. And more. The camera function being 20mgpixle on the windows 8. I repeat this isn’t insider program.
I go by what my friend tells me to do cause he is the one that motioned the phone and I didn’t want to ruin it. And I do know a fair bit about tech. Why would I have this app otherwise? And also it depends on both windows and your provider if windows 10 is out. Sometimes if it were out and you didn’t know it, that’s your provider that didn’t allow windows 10 to come through.
And from my point of view windows 10 on the lumia came out the 20th of october last year But then again it can be at different times and dates in all time zones. Hard to say, but that data should be backed up and restores when you sign into the app after updating Yeah, I don’t backup photos either, they are all on my SD card tho. Same with music. I’m not worried at most stuff but if U lost the stuff from those 2 apps, it would be a disaster. I have entirely too many feeds and subscriptions between them.

Now only if Microsoft released the Windows 10 update for the flagship camera phone Lumia , or at least Windows Phone 8. Without updating these legacy flagship devices, especially ones like the with 2gb ram; there is no hope of getting many of the users of those devices back to Windows Phone after their current device dies.

The camera is just virtually just as good obviously there’s less pixels, but my didn’t take photos as clear as I would expect from a 41mp camera The pictures are just as good if not slightly better on the xl in my opinion since you can take advantage of things like adjusting the flash intensity after you already took the photo.
Same here. My wifes was light years faster then my I agree. I have a Lumia on build LOL “flagship” device SW support!!! Deal with it. Its not just about the amount of RAM Flagship device in the sense that Microsoft has not come up with any new successor that would match the camera and RAW photo support. It also doesn’t get a number of the newer features. It’s not that some of the older, lower spec’d phones won’t run Win 10 M, but they won’t do it well enough to make the effort worth it Many of these are carrier branded devices and the carrier, justifiably I think, has no desire to commit to supporting these things with a brand new OS for another couple of years.
MS also doesn’t need a bunch of low end devices that run acceptably on WP8. It’s unfortunate the OS didn’t garner enough interest to keep flagships rolling out every year, but since it didn’t one shouldn’t expect year old hardware to carry the torch. You can get Release Build on a via Insider.

Without updating these legacy flagship devices, especially ones like the with 2gb ram; there is no hope of getting many of the users of those devices back to Windows Phone after their current device dies. Wishful thinking,won’t happen,not working well on the Lumia for most. The Apple centric media has made sure to generate this anger. Apple does the same thing on iOS, putting up daily reminders that canot be dismissed permanently and even use a modal dialog that doesn’t allow you to do anything else until you dismiss it, but they will not say the same things about an Apple product as they do with a Microsoft product, can’t make Apple look bad.

It has its faults like email notifications don’t notify you so you have to go into the app every time to see if you have a new email.

Anyways, I performed a final Windows 8. My is operating nicely, I have not had any unexpected shutdowns, hangs, lockups, no hard or soft resets required, nor have I bricked my phone. My previously installed apps required to be upgraded twice for some reason but after the second round lumia 1520 windows 10 upgrades they have all settled in nicely.
This is my only primary phone and am happy so far with the 10 Mobile upgrade. Wireless has worked from the beginning and still is working. I am yet to try the backup function as this will overwrite my last and final 8.

Instead of hiding the lists in a ugly button, Microsoft should make the pages swipeable like they always have been. In landscape, however, I am not sure if swipe-able pivots would not waste too much space. The landscape mode is not that good in every app, though. The maps app for example looks very crappy in landscape as the elements are really badly placed. So far it is a huge step forward compared to Windows Phone since at least there now is landscape functionality and I really hope the will benefit from it eventually. While an always displayed menu makes sense in landscape, here universal apps could really shine if properly coded. The best example in the new music preview app.
Pivots would do much better basically like everywhere. The same for the new mail app. Another thing I noticed is that the option menu on the bottom of the screen can no longer be opened by swipes over the edge of the screen. Especially in the new office apps this would make sense since it speeds the workflow: Instead of having to tap the three buttons one could simply swipe over the edge just as it works in Windows Phone currently. I hope that this is simply not coded yet but planned.
